Open With:
Chamber and Skin standing behind a barred window, looking out at the human slaves digging in the mine.  The two mutants are sharing their thoughts on the current mission to save their teachers sister Illyana Rasputin.

Outside the window a mutant watching over the slaves; witness’ some exchange between to humans and sends out a energy blast at them for disobeying the rules. The energy blast knocks out the two and kills the older one. The young woman gets back up onto her feet and see’s that the mutant guard has killed her father.

The woman throws a rock at the murderer; which has no effect on the mutant other than pissing him off even further.  The guard then fires another blast and kills the young woman.
Cut To:
Back at the window, Chamber is getting upset and shouts out at the guard. However; skin wraps him up with his fingers and reminds Chamber of their mission. He also reminds Chamber that the mutant will pay for his transgressions. Maybe not today, but soon.
Meanwhile:
At the exterior of the lookout tower, the railing around the observation area that the murdering mutant is at suddenly gives way. The guard falls over the side, but is barely hanging onto  the railing and hoping not to let go and fall to the ground. In front of the guard the brick wall transforms into a face, that of the mutant Mondo.
Mondo’s sudden appearance unnerves the mutant guard and he suddenly falls to his death.

Elsewhere:
Another Barrack tower where Paige and Vicente are still in disguise as the mutant Quietus.  Page calls the secretary as to what is the noise outside. The secretary a dainty mutant woman walks out to find out.

After she leaves, Vicente in gas form,  slips out of the Quietus disguise and reveals how much smaller Paige is compared to the actual Quietus. The two discuss finding the information as to where Illyana is within the mine. When suddenly there is a beep from the intercom on Quietus’ desk alerting the two mutants that someone is about to come into the office.

In walks the Mutant known as  Sugar Man, who  has the little secretary in tow. We see that Paige and Vicente did some quick thinking and are hiding themselves strategically in the shower making it look as though Quietus is taking a shower.
This causes Sugar man to take pause and talks with “Quietus”  in the bathroom.  The topic is that of a possible break into the mine.  Paige talking through her disguise manages to convince Sugar man that “he” will keep an eye out for any possibility.  Sugar man leaves the bathroom with a suspicious look.

Cut To:
The entrance to the mining camp is guarded by two Mutants, who are making small talk, as an unseen and intangible pair of heroes glide down from the sky onto the top turret of the mining camp wall. The couple is Shadowcat and Colossus., the teachers to Generation Next. The two look about and Shadowcat asks Colossus, “Now what?”
He in turn, reviews the plan and says to sit tight and wait for the signal.

Meanwhile:
Down in the mine, we see Illyana is part of a rock brigade; passing one stone to another person down the line until it’s tossed over the side into a chasm.  A young girl is the last one in line and chucks it off the cliff.  As she stands there attempting to catch her breath, a Guard walks by in a hurry and knocks the girl off the side.  The teen looks as though she will fall to her death; but is saved by a rock shaped Mondo.

Cut To:
The top of the mine, we see a guard gets knocked down by a telekinetic blast, and Chamber is closing up his coat to hide the metallic chest underneath him. Suddenly there is a tap on his shoulder and Paige in her Quietus disguise is standing behind him.  They are about to discuss their plan when page knocks Chamber and Skin’s heads together, due to a noise she hears behind her.  She turns to see that it’s Sugar Man.

Cut To:
Colossus and Shadowcat get a report on the activities of their students. Shadowcat suggests helping them out, but Colossus says no. He feels that the students know what they are doing.

Final pages.
Mondo in turn, finds Illyana , While Sugar Man has “Quietus” backed into a corner and tells him to kill the two spies he has captured (Chamber and Skin).  Colossus and Shadowcat get the signal that Illyana is found and head off to help…

To be concluded next issue.
THOUGHTS ON THE STORY:
The story is ok,  their is a work on the team dynamic. Characters are focused on, but nothing that really delves deep into a character build. The major drive is how others are surviving in this world of Apocalypse.  Our narrative does advance as our heroes do find the target. But we end on a cliffhanger with Paige, Skin, and Chamber.
ART:
Chris Bachalo art is very organic and detailed. His use of backgrounds and patterns in the background really sets the world that this story is taking place in.  I really like his use of shading and a bit of gritty line work.
All in all I give this book a:
Score 7 out of 10
